Pre-Test Courses

EDT (Essential driver Training)

As of April 4th 2011, Essential Driver Training (EDT) has become compulsory for learner drivers. Essential Driver Training (EDT) is a mandatory training course that teaches the basic driving skills to beginner car drivers. It is part of the RSA’s Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) scheme and is intended to improve road safety.

All new beginner drivers  who receive their learner licence on, or after 4th April 2011 will be have to complete 12 ONE hour lessons before applying for their actual driving test. Essential Driver Training students will also have to have a Essential Driver Training Logbook which has to be filled in & signed off by a qualified ADI instructor after each module of the course.

The Road Safety Authority also recommends that Essential Driver Training Lessons 1-12 should be done over the first 6-months of your new learner permit.
